Chaz Mostert Wins His Maiden Title:

After waiting 13 long seasons, Chaz Mostert can finally call himself a Supercars champion!! After a stellar finals season, Mostert found himself in contention to win the title, only trailing Broc Feeney by 20 points. With the regular season not going as hoped for the WAU driver, focus shifted to the finals series, the newly introduced playoff-like system in supercars, favouring Mostert as he found incredible form in the back end of the season. After rival and title leader Broc Feeney found himself in trouble, Chaz needed to just hold position and finish the race. Mostert finished 2nd in the last race of the season behind Matt Payne and found himself crowned the 2025 Supercars Champion.

Heartbreak For Broc Feeney

After a record-breaking season with 14 wins and 19 poles in one season (smashing the record of 16 set by Scott McLaughlin in 2017), Broc Feeney found his championship hopes crumble right before his eyes. After a highly debated first lap collision with the number 2 Walkinshaw Andretti United car of Ryan Wood, Feeney found himself spun out from the lead, rejoining back in 20th. The Redbull driver’s bad luck did not end there, as throughout the race, he found himself facing engine issues 5-6kph down compared to the other cars’ pace, finishing 2 laps down and ending a stellar season on a disappointing note. Despite Feeney’s dominance over the season and heading into the final as the championship leader, and looking to be the favourite to take out the title, he ended the title race in 3rd, leaving him heartbroken. Feeney hopes to return next year stronger and fighting for the title once again.

Too Ambitious Or A Fair Move?

A key talking point of the weekend was the first lap incident between Broc Feeney and Ryan Wood. A move that is still being debated to this day. In the final race, Wood dived down the inside of Feeney’s car and made contact, thus spinning Feeney out of the lead. While Wood was apologetic for his move, stating, “Apologies to Broc because I know he has worked so hard his whole career for this and I hate to see that happen and be in the middle of something.” - Auto Action, he defended his move “I am obviously gutted I got involved in something like that, but as soon as I saw the gap open I thought this was my opportunity because he ran away from me yesterday”. Wood received a 15-second time penalty for this incident, which some fans called harsh due to believing it was a racing incident, and others said it was warranted.

Is The Finals Series Worth It?

Supercars brought in the finals series to promote a title fight between drivers and thus create excitement around the sport. While creating excitement, fans are divided on whether this is the best way to crown a champion. Many fans exclaimed that this was not a true representation of who deserves it the most on the basis of results and consistency. However, other fans have loved the playoff system, loving the upsets and surprises. As this is the first year of the finals system and in its infancy in supercars, a competition so rooted in tradition and die-hard fans, there have been reservations and concerns, while others have welcomed it with open arms. It’ll be interesting to see how supercars develop and grow this.

Brodie Kostecki Crashes Out Of Finals:

Shell V Power driver Brodie Kostecki, one of the favourites in the final series, crashed out in Q2 qualifying for the Saturday race. Kostecki found himself a passenger after his front splitter broke, becoming wedged underneath the left front wheel, ending in the turn two barrier. Not only did this crash cause the DJR team to undergo a 20-hour repair job back at their workshop, but this also led to four photographers being left injured and having to be transported to hospital.

Despite the efforts of the DJR team, Kostecki’s weekend went from bad to worse as he was unable to turn his form around and thus found himself bowing out in the first round of finals, an outcome that no one was expecting.

Ryan Wood’s Unlucky Run

Walkinshaw Andretti United Driver Ryan Wood saw his unluckiness follow him from Bathurst, when he found his number two Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Mustang leaking fuel and thus taking him out of the race. The fuel leak meant that Wood had to retire from the race, dropping him down the standings, leaving him finishing in 9th and thus knocked out of the finals. Despite putting his mustang on pole, he was unable to capitlise on this due to his fuel leak. This run of bad luck proving once again how this sport can be so cruel at times.

Chaz’s Weekend Domination

Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert had a dominant weekend, taking out both race wins at the Gold Coast 500. Mostert showed a blistering pace, running at 1.08.8 throughout the first race and finishing seconds ahead of second place in both races. His pace was indicative of qualifying laps for the duration of 85 laps. Due to his win/s, he has now booked his spot in the semi-finals at the Sandown 500

Broc Feeney One Off Record

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney Snatched yet another pole for Race 2 of the weekend on Saturday. This now brings his pole total up to 15 for the season. Currently, Scott McLaughlin holds the record for the most amount of poles in a season with 16/26 set in 2020, but with Feeney’s current form and still 5 more races to go, it’s looking likely that he’ll snatch that record.

Pitlane Chaos

On the Sunday race, there was chaos in the pit lane as many teams double-stacked, leading to congestion and contact among cars. Penrite’s Matt Payne was handed a 15-second penalty for his unsafe release, resulting in him making contact in the pit lane with Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert

Kai Allen’s Mega Weekend

After Penrite’s Kai Allen had a stellar weekend, which saw him finish 3rd in Saturday’s race and 6th in Sunday’s race, Allen jumped from 10th to 6th in the standings and thus cemented himself into the semi-final at the Sandown 500.

Will Brown’s Crashes & Triumphs.

Redbull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown had to perform two incredible recovery drives after he crashed out two times over the weekend. The reigning supercars champion found himself crashing out in the beach chicane on his top 10 shootout lap on Saturday. Brown found himself starting from 10th and drove back up to 5th.

On Sunday, Will Brown crashed in qualifying, leaving him to start 18th with his qualifying woes continuing. However, despite this, his race pace was amazing and led to a recovery drive that resulted in his finishing in 8th and thus meant he progressed to the semi-finals.

Anton De Pasquale narrowly misses out on the semi-finals after a penalty from the stewards after his contact with James Courtney in Sunday’s race.

The Gold Coast was a great way to start off the final series, and created so much drama and knocking out many favourites. We head off now to Sandown for the semi-finals. What were your thoughts on the weekend?

These days were long, with 3 am wake-ups and only getting back to my motel between 7 and 10:30 pm each day. My stints lasted from 5 am to 6 pm over the 4 days, but these long days were so worth it and so much fun. I even got to see the sunrise over Mount Panorama

Throughout the days, I learnt and improved my skills in not only flags but also my adaptability and communication skills in response to a variety of different situations, having to learn these skills quickly and on the go. I learnt how to pivot and change in the face of adversity, whether that be responding to incidents and acting accordingly, to delivering vital information to race control within the 1000, and running flags on my own.

While I had immense respect for flag marshals and all they do, through my experience, I gained even more respect for those who keep the sport running with barely any appreciation. From the early morning starts to the late night finishes, this experience is one I’ll never ever forget, and I gained a new perspective on how the sport runs and operates behind the scenes. While the weather often threw curve balls our way, I was happy to contribute to a sport I love so much.

Some of my favourite moments include:

• Waving the green flag after safety car restarts

• Able to be on the radio loop for the Supercars TTSO, Super 2 Top 5 Shootout and the Bathurst 1000

• Finding myself on Television

• Blue flagging and watching drivers go full pelt

• The amount of debris that was recovered

• Laughes, fun and memories with my teammates

• Chaz’s car stopping 150m before my post, and having to interact with him to get his car back to the team

• Watching Chaz skull a beer directly across my post

• The number of new friends I made.

• Calling in an incident to race control in the Bathurst 1000 on my own

• Realising how open and welcoming the community is, and how much motorsport is like a family

• Nearly getting taken out by my favourite driver at my post

• Helping my Postmates out with my knowledge of the junior categories

• Assisting in spotting debris and irregularities on cars.

• Being trackside for the driver parade and getting a wave from Greg Murphy

I was able to watch the race from the closest point one could reach, truly realising the speed, precision and accuracy these drivers compete at every single lap. Seeing the movement and driving styles up close and personal, my chief marshal telling me to sit down on my breaks, which I could not, as I was too excited and wanted to be in on the action.

I gained a new perspective and truly realised how much I love this sport, further enhancing my desire to work within the sport. Watching it from the closest point on the track, seeing cars ride against the walls at an average of 285km/h was insane, seeing the track and being able to walk on it is something that I’ll never forget.

I also got to experience my first Supercars street party, where I saw the pitstop challenges and saw the level of skill and precision it takes to change tyres on a car, which saw my admiration for these teams and their personnel skyrocket. I was also lucky enough to see the cars rolling into the street and back to the track within touching distance, and interact with drivers, notable media members and even a team boss (Brad Jones)

My first-ever Bathurst 1000 & Flag Marshal experience was so enriching and exciting. I hope to be back in Bathurst in the near future, and I can’t wait to experience it once again

The Bend hosts their first-ever Enduro race, kicking off the 2 Enduro event calendar. A race that is sure to bring uncertainty and intrigue as an endurance event has never been conducted here.

With the Sprint Cup wrapped by Broc Feeney after his dominant run, all eyes will now turn to the teams and drivers to see if anyone can stop Broc Feeney and Red Bull Ampol Racing’s purple patch, especially going into the Bathurst 1000 race.

With the winner of the sprint cup gaining a place in the finals at the Gold Coast, it’s all to play for, for teams and drivers alike, especially those outside the top 10. The pressure will be on co-drivers, especially the younger and first-time drivers, to deliver and perform not only to assist their main driver in proving themselves to their respective teams, but also to those up and down the lanes.

With more fuel stops due to a smaller fuel tank, and driver changes, teams and drivers will be forced to adapt to variability and unpredictability, as well as pinpoint seamless driver changes with their co-drivers.

With new and old co-drivers, including some team switches, here’s a spotters’ guide of the drivers that will be running for the Air Touch 500 at the Bend Motorsport Park.

Alongside supercars, several support categories promise to bolster the lineup and entertainment.

The weekend is shaping up to be one full of excitement, uncertainty and should provide amazing racing action and strategy if the previous sprint events at this track are anything to go by.

Kaitlin: So, firstly, how cool is it to be racing in GT4?

Jarrod & Summer: It is absolutely amazing. Definitely a different experience, but a bit of an upgrade and superduper cool. Upgrade, yeah, it's a bit of an upgrade. It is a bit of an upgrade. Bit of an upgrade from the ‘86. No, it's been awesome, I think we both learned lots about this car and about what these 888 boys do, so it's been a good programme so far. Philip Island wasn't that good for us, unfortunately, but we're going to turn it around this weekend. Don't you worry. We're going to qualify this time.

Kaitlin: How is it being teammates and co-driving together?

Summer: We've been friends for a long time. I think it's about four or five years now. But it's super fun. It's really fun. We're serious when we need to be, but we definitely have our fun and definitely our unserious moments as well.

Jarrod: No, it's been good. I think I've been able to drive a lot longer than Summer has, so there's a lot of things that I've been able to teach her. There's a bit that she's taught me as well, which is pretty funny. But no, I think it's been a good partnership. She's done an amazing job for how much experience she has and what she does. So, yeah, I think we're all going to be a force to reckon with, I think this year.

Kaitlin: Summer, how is it being a female in such a male-dominated sport?

Summer: To be honest, you don't really notice it once the helmet goes on for everyone. They're all the exact same. To be honest, I don't really know anyone in this field yet either.

Jarrod: That's not true. You're much angrier.

Summer: Yeah, I'm much angrier. But I don't really know anyone in this field yet, to be honest, either, so I'm not sure who's in what car, and I'm just trying to get past the next person in front of me.

Summer: Jarrod, how's it like to be a female in this sport?

Jarrod: It's good to be a female in motorsport. I think it's a privilege.

Kaitlin: If your car could talk, what would it say about your driving style?

Summer: It would have some really big opinions on Jarrod last round. Well, you hurt its feelings.

Jarrod: I didn't hurt its feelings. You hurt its feelings. I got brake checked, you ran into a guy.

Summer: I did run into someone. I tapped someone very lightly. Just said hello.

What would they say, to be honest? I think they'd say we have definitely built up a lot of confidence. We are getting a lot stronger. We're getting a lot faster. To be honest, I think they'd be quite judgy. Judgy? I think they'd be quite judgy about how we drive.

Jarrod: I think they'd be proud of us last round. We came from last to fifth and sixth in both races, so I think the car would have worked.

Summer: I think it would have been screaming when Jared threw it down the inside of two cars in turn one. We were all screaming in the pits.

Kaitlin: Who's your dream line-up for racing?

Jarrod & Summer: You're looking at it. Yeah, I think I'm looking at it. That's not a question, is it?

Kaitlin: How's the environment around the racing team

Summer: It's amazing. It's really good. Everyone's super supportive. Everyone has each other's back. At Triple Eight, everyone's a family. It's an amazing experience. Everyone's super good, super nice.

While the track, commonly dubbed the ‘paperclip’ due to its distinctive look and shape, appears simple and relatively easy on paper, it threw up many curveballs and created some great racing.

Wet & Wild Quali:

In contrast to typical sunny Queensland weather in quali for race 24, a curveball was thrown the teams and drivers’ way as a downpour of weather hit the circuit. This saw teams and drivers scramble to set respective lap times, with many of the drivers struggling to find grip and finding the gravel trap. This left many drivers with unrepresentative times in comparison to their pace and car speed, leaving many drivers qualified out of position.

Sprint Cup Winner:

With Queensland Raceway (QR) being the last stop of the newly introduced sprint cup, it was time to crown the inaugural sprint cup winner. There was no doubt who would be the inaugural sprint cup winner after a dominant sprint season; Broc Feeney was crowned the winner. The number 88 driver for Redbull Ampol Racing rounding off his impressive campaign so far with 3/3 poles and 2/3 wins with a start line penalty in Race 24 (Race 2 of the weekend), hindering his chances of performing a clean sweep.

Feeney won the sprint cup convincingly, as well as claiming the Pole Position award, with the enduros and finals season to come. This meant that Feeney was the first driver to qualify for the finals series at Gold Coast and Sandown, respectively.

Who Has Qualified Already?:

In addition to Broc Feeney, two other drivers have also already qualified for the Finals Season. These are: Will Brown, who is currently third in the championship after being overtaken in the standings, and Matthew Payne, who is second in the championship

Kai Allen In Form:

Kai Allen Penrite Racing’s 20-year-old rookie is starting to find form and claiming a stake for the finals series. Following his success in Townsville, Allen backed this up with 2 podium finishes, P2 in race 23 and P3 in race 2,5, only missing out on a double P2 finish after Cam Waters overtook him in the pitstop sequence. He now sits 11th, only 20 points outside the top 10, behind Thomas Randle.

Zach Bates First Outing:

Over the QR weekend, fans were treated to the debut running of Zach Bates in the 888 Supercheap Auto wildcard run by Triple Eight Race Engineering. Bates had a strong outing, even qualifying 5th in his first top 10 shootout for race 25. Over the weekend, Bates showed great pace and racecraft. In race 25, he had a run-in with both Matt Stone Racing cars, which saw his highly successful weekend end on a sour note. With his strong showing, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in the Enduros alongside Craig Lowndes.

Safety Cars:

Over the weekend, many teams called out the time the safety car was out on track. Teams stated that the length of the safety car period was excessive and that this was taking away from the sport and the amount of time spent racing.

Teams are calling for the time a safety car is on track to be reduced significantly and investigated for the enduros and finals season.

With the Enduro season next kicking off at the Bend 500. It will be interesting to see how teams and drivers switch from sprint mode to endurance Mode.

Will Broc Feeney continue his dominant run, or will there be a new challenger that breaks his streak?

This rule left fans divided as the ‘main driver must start’ rule reduced any variability and differing strategies from the teams throughout the enduro season, thus meaning that strategies and stints were highly predictable. This meant that watching co-drivers and main game drivers duking it out on the track at the same time did not occur, reducing the excitement and unpredictability this brought, especially at the Mountain

Supercars implemented this rule to highlight the main drivers in an attempt to promote the sport and its big names. However, this move saw the enduro seasons create less action than expected. Most notably, the Bathurst 1000 which was lacklustre in comparison to previous editions of the great race.

The category has now decided to reverse its decision, allowing teams to decide whether they want their main driver to start or their co-driver in both the Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 events. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see what strategy/strategies their favourite teams and driver pairings use, expecting to see a mix of both drivers during the starting stint.

The returned opportunity now creates the opportunity for more action with co-drivers aiming to prove themselves to their team and those up and down the grid. While the main game drivers will be trying to keep their noses clean and produce results.

Fans will be eagerly waiting to see what strategies the teams will use.

Will the teams start the race with a solid pair of hands with the Supercars drivers, or will they leave them to bring home the car safely?

Will teams put the pressure on the co-drivers to have a good start, having a clean first stint?

Time will only tell.

The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body has stirred fans throughout the season consistently leaving fans and pundits alike confused due to its inconsistencies in rulings and the enforcement of rules. Throughout the season the main talking points were the enforcement of rules within a race setting and outside a race setting as well as the ever-present cost cap breaches. Throughout these situations and most notably in regard to the cost cap breach the FIA was found to be backtracking on previously set rules which lead to speculation and further dislike towards the governing body. Likewise, many decisions against drivers left fans to become angry, questioning the integrity and sense of the FIA.

Cost Cap:

As the 2023 season drew to a close news broke that Oracle Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team had both exceeded the cost cap that was introduced prior to the commencement of the 2022 season as well as new regulations in a attempt to reduce the dominance of Mercedes and Red Bull Racing promoting closer racing between all teams even those of backmarkers. As a result, F1 media was sent into meltdown especially F1 twitter leaving fans to accuse and belittle Red Bull Racing Max Verstappen’s achievements calling him a cheat and thus invalidating his 2021 and 2022 World Championship. In a response to the cost cap saga Red Bull Racing put out a statement denying the cost cap had provided them with a competitive performance advantage that allowed them to clinch both the Driver’s and Constructors championships simply stating that they had spent this money on catering.

Enforcement Of Rules

In Japan, the FIA did not help their case to try to reconcile with the F1 community as they deployed a recovery vehicle, a tractor one that was reminiscent of the tractor that Jules Bianchi slid into at the 2014 Japan GP that ultimately killed him while Gasly was still on track. A similar situation that could have ended in a similar fate had Gasly not been aware of the tractors presence on track.

In addition to this a call of favouritism by the fans from the FIA in regards to the enforcement of rules and the application of penalties has been raised. This concern from fans was raised after a trend of ‘english drivers’ were being ‘exempt’ from penalties and warnings while other drivers were being punished for minuscule incidents.

Another notable incident was the fia’s handling of the 2023 Australian Grand Prix. Most fans questioned the FIA’s decision to throw 4 red flags in an attempt to control the chaos that was the race, when fans believed that these on track incidents could have been dealt with by throwing yellow flags and minimising the amount of stoppages within the race. Fans also questioned penalties that were handed out, most notably Carlos Sainz’ penalty. Fans also were disappointed and displeased in the FIA’s decision to end the race under a safety car especially after an eventful race, leaving fans with a distasteful taste in their mouths.

Now as the 2025 season is in full swing, new FIA sanctioned rules are in full affect which many fans believe ruin the integrity and realness of the sport. The FIA have introduced rules which inhibit a driver’s ability to swear in press conferences as well as talks of removing team radio’s from live broadcast, a new rule change that has seen the FIA loose more fans than gain. Fans alike have voiced their resentment again this stating that it takes away from the integrity of the sport and removes the drivers ability to have free speech and voice their opinions.

In addition to this we have seen the FIA tell max that is he to not question the FIA which many have believed is a direct attack on max’s free speech.

It will be interesting to see what the rest 2025 season will bring.

Broc Feeney: Currently, well I'm always up and down. Ordinary, which is top of the Spotify charts, I've been listening to that. Bit of Pink Pony Club by Chappel Roan. But I normally listen to rap, but I like mixing it up.

Kaitlin: So when you're driving, how do you know to find the limit and where you're overstepping it?

Broc Feeney: I suppose I'm lucky enough, I've done it for quite a few years now.So you build a good feeling through your bum, your hands, your feet. And then you can feel all these things. But yeah, I suppose lucky enough to drive a lot that you learn, and that's why this weekend I'm driving something different to try and broaden my learnings.

Kaitlin: How different is the GT car to the supercar?

Broc Feeney: It's quite a bit different. It's probably more suited for this track than the supercar is here at Sydney. But it's got ABS and traction control, so it's got a lot more electronics. But it's also a lot faster through the corners. So turn one here at Sydney is nearly flat out in one of these cars, where it's a big break in a supercar.

Kaitlin: At Norwell you had your apprenticeship, How much of the mechanical side of the car do you have involvement in? Or are you just focused on the driving side?

Broc Feeney: I definitely just focus on my driving. My mechanics let me do the driving, and I trust them to let them do all their job. But me and my engineer have built a really good relationship where I'm able to give him some ideas, and he's able to give me some ideas. So during your apprenticeship, although I probably only did it for a couple of years and spent most of my time driving cars, I still learn a lot and have a lot of appreciation for what those guys do.

Kaitlin: If Charlotte could talk, what would she say about your driving style?

Broc Feeney: Hopefully it's smooth, I don't know. She’d say I've got a fast driver. 😂

Kaitlin: You're still involved in Norwell, how much are you still learning, even though you're professionally driving?

Broc Feeney: Yeah, I learn heaps. So I go out there with Nash Morris, who works there and runs the place there, and he still beats me most of the time. So I still go out there and learn off all those guys. I remember when I was a young kid going out there and Shane was there and trying to jump in with him and learn. So there's always something to learn out there, and that's the best part about it.

Kaitlin: What's the funniest fan experience you've had?

Broc Feeney: Funniest fan experience? The first one that comes to mind, I was at a shop on the Gold Coast and someone came up to me and said, geez, you look like Broc Feeney, and I was like, oh yeah, my name's Broc. Yeah, that was a pretty funny story.

Kaitlin: At Sydney for the supercars, I actually saw Mini Broc rolling in, So how cool was that to have a kid named after you?

Broc Feeney: Yeah, that's another one. Like going to signing sessions and hearing people name their kids Brock after me is pretty crazy. I don't think anyone's got a tattoo of my signature yet, which I'm glad. I'd rather just keep that for posters. But it's awesome. I mean, I was once one of those kids who was coming to the races and lining up to meet people, so it's awesome.

Kaitlin: If you could give any advice to any up-and-coming drivers, what would you tell them?

Broc Feeney: Just surround yourself by good people. I spend a lot of time at Norwell. I think there's great people there to surround yourself with. So being with good people that have done great things in the sport before, you want to learn off people that have done stuff that you want to do. So yeah, that's probably the best advice I can give.

Currently, Tickford Racing fields a four-car team in the Super 2 category, featuring drivers Rylan Grey, Rueben Goodall, Nash Morris, and Lachie Dalton. These four drivers occupy the top four positions in the championship standings, with Rylan Grey leading the way with 750 points. However, none of them has a full-time Supercars seat for 2026 or the foreseeable future.

Tickford Racing is currently facing a dilemma regarding the management of its talented drivers. Despite their junior talent pool being impressive, recent contract extensions of Cameron Waters and Thomas Randle, securing their positions with the Supercars outfit until 2027, raise concerns about the future of their junior drivers.

Despite their successful Super 2 campaign, Tickford has opted not to use any of these drivers as co-drivers for the upcoming enduro season. Instead, they have entered a wildcard entry featuring Dalton and Grey. (Both Dalton and Grey raced a wildcard at Perth and Darwin, respectively.) As a result, Goodall and Morris will enter the 2025 season without any Supercars experience.

Nash Morris, however, did participate in PremiAir Racing’s enduro evaluation test at Queensland Raceway, where he tested their 2025 car. He aims to secure a co-driver seat with Richie Stanaway for the upcoming Supercars 2025 Enduro Season. Currently ranked third in the Super 2 standings and with experience in various racing categories, Morris is well-positioned for this opportunity. The eventual co-driver alongside Stanaway will be announced after the evaluation day/s.

Given the success of Tickford's junior drivers throughout the current Super 2, it is likely that Tickford Racing will do everything possible to retain these talents, despite the limited availability of seats in the team. In motorsport, speed and consistency are crucial for success. However, top category seats, particularly in the Australian Motorsport Series, are limited and highly competitive.

These young talents are eager to race at the highest level of Australian motorsport, raising the question of whether the lack of seats at Tickford will prompt them to seek opportunities elsewhere. Their impressive results and consistent performances beyond doubt garner attention, and with several Supercars teams having drivers whose contracts are expiring next year, it is likely these teams will take a closer look at these drivers and their results, considering these junior drivers for their team with the intention to recruit them.

With Tickford Racing seats already secured for 2026 and 2027, to gain a main game seat, Tickford junior drivers will need to explore options outside the Tickford camp. Although having the backing of a well-respected team like Tickford should, in theory, bolster their prospects for securing a position in the main game, factors such as timing and connections in the sport play significant roles in gaining a seat.

There is also the question of whether these drivers are ready for the main competition. Transitioning from junior categories to Supercars—despite Super 2 being the direct feeder series—can be a substantial leap, and many drivers have struggled to adapt to the high demands of Supercars racing, leading them to lose their seat and having to search for seats in other motorsport categories. If one or all of them were to make the jump too early and struggle, this may hinder their future supercar endeavours.

Will the drivers seek opportunities elsewhere, or will they stay loyal to the team that has supported their journey in motorsport? Should Tickford’s Super 2 drivers remain with the Tickford camp, will it hinder their chances of securing a main game seat, or will it assist them in their progression?

Ultimately, the question remains if a lack of seats at the Tickford Camp will impact their ability to retain their future stars, Rylan Grey, Rueben Goodall, Nash Morris, and Lachie Dalton.

Kaitlin: How was it driving the GT car today?

Thomas Randle: It's very different to a supercar. I really enjoy driving these GT cars, but technically, they're an easier car to drive. They actually go faster, but you've got so much aerodynamics. They're left-hand driving on ABS, traction control, paddle shift, auto blip, all these things that really help.

I mean, they are built for the gentleman driver, whereas a supercar, you've still got a gear stick, sequential shifter, you've got a heel-toe, no traction control, no ABS, and your front tyres are the same size as your rear tyres. So, yeah, they're very tricky to drive as a supercar, but look, I really enjoy my time here.

I enjoy high aero cars, that's sort of my background. But, yeah, they're different; they're both different, but I enjoy them both.

Kaitlin: So, we saw you presenting over the weekend. How do you transition between presenting and then returning to race mode?

Thomas Randle: Yeah, that's a good question. You certainly need to ensure you have the right headspace for both. But this weekend, to be fair, compared to a supercar, is a bit more cruisy than a supercar weekend.

The supercar weekend, we have a lot of media commitments and stuff like that, engineering meetings, and there's definitely no time to do any commentary. So, yeah, that's a very serious weekend. But I think just the way the schedule worked this weekend, with the night racing, it allowed me to do both.

Originally, I was actually doing the commentary already. I was going to be here for that with the commentary team and Speed Series, and then Marcel rang up about a week ago saying, Hey, do you want to drive a GT3 car with me? So, I ended up trying to help both sides of the camp, and look, it was a lot of fun doing both.

I really enjoy doing that side as well. Obviously, not as much as driving the cars, but it's not that I don't respect the commentary team; but you certainly get a newfound respect for how involved and intense it actually is, and how much the guys like Crailsy, Rusty, and Stubbsies really know about all their racing.

Kaitlin: You had an interesting weekend last year in Tasmania. How are you looking towards Tasmania this year?

Thomas Randle: Interesting is a good word to sum it up. Yes, we actually had a lot of good speed., I qualified on pole position on a Sunday, but had a run-in together with our friend that's on your shirt there. So, we're looking to not do that again, but it'd be cool to replicate the speed we had there, and I'd love to get another podium in the championship. We got one here at SMP at the start of the year, but it'd be nice to get a few more down there.

Kaitlin: If your car could talk, what would it say about your driving style?

Thomas Randle: If my car could talk. I would like to say in qualifying, I'm aggressive, and then maybe in the race, it would probably say, hey, you need to not be so hard on me on the rear tyres. So, I'd like to think I take care of my car, but I probably need to take a little bit more care with the rear tyres.

Kaitlin: Does your car have a name?

Thomas Randle: It doesn't actually. So, that's a good point. You know what I did notice is that there's a few cars in the field that are named Rhonda. So, Andre's car and I think Will's car are both named Rhonda. So, yeah, fun fact.

Kaitlin: If you could give any advice to young and up-and-coming drivers, what advice would you give them?

Thomas Randle: I would say young and up-and-coming drivers, if they're in karts or in lower-level entry racing, have fun. Make sure you enjoy it. If this is really what you want to do in life, then you have to persist. You have to put all your energy into it. But in saying that, it is still a niche thing to try and become a professional driver.

There are only 24 guys on the supercars grid, and not all of them get paid. So, it's hard to make a living in this world. And yes, you want to put everything into trying to make a career out of it, but you need to have good people around you. Be nice to everyone. You don't know who you might meet. And like I said, just make sure you enjoy it. Because if you're not enjoying it, if you don't love it, then you shouldn't be doing it.

Kaitlin: On that topic, you're considered one of the nicest drivers on the grid. How good does that feel? Or do you want a different view of yourself? Or how do you feel about that?

Thomas Randle: I mean, it's nice. Yeah, I mean, I just try and be myself. On the track, it may be a bit of a different story. I don't want to be too nice out on the track once the helmet and the visor goes down. But certainly off the track, I mean, I'm very lucky to be doing this and getting paid to drive a supercar. And, yeah, look, very fortunate to be here and just want to have fun.

Kaitlin: How was it driving a GT car today?

Ryan Wood: It's a bit different from a supercar; it was a lot different to the supercar, but ended the weekend well with P2 with myself and Steve in the 88 Wolfbrook Motorsport car with MPC. So yeah, pretty stoked and building on that and getting more and more comfortable in the GT3 cars is super fun and looking forward to doing a bit more.

Kaitlin: Now that you're in your second year of supercars, is there still anything to learn or have you learnt it all in your rookie year?

Ryan Wood: There's always something to learn. I think I'll learn until I stop racing and looking forward to obviously Tassie this weekend coming up and doing heaps of racing and really enjoying that aspect and honing in on my craft and getting better and better. So I'm enjoying every minute of it, and it's been good fun.

Kaitlin: : We've seen that you've been pushing Chaz and often out-qualifying him. How is that dynamic? Is Chas pushing you back? Are you learning a lot from Chas as well?

Ryan Wood: 100%. Obviously, Chaz is probably the benchmark in our championship and sharing the same equipment and the team with him is super good and learning off him is obviously super helpful. So I'm enjoying and loving every minute of it and definitely trying to get a leg up, but he's still the master and just learning off him.

Kaitlin: With Walkinshaw moving to Toyota next year, how exciting is that?

Ryan Wood: Super exciting for our team and super exciting for the sport but still got one more year left with Ford and trying to end that on a high and get some more trophies for our team and hopefully a championship.

Kaitlin: If your car could talk, what would it say about your driving style?

Ryan Wood: I'm too rough. It probably doesn't like how many crashes we get into, but I'm sure it has a lot of fun along the way.

Kaitlin: We saw in Drivers Only there was a chat about a back-to-back kind of New Zealand race. Where would you like to have that kind of race?

Ryan Wood: For me, I love Taupo and I'd love a race down south so Royal Puna would be cool but we'll see what happens and obviously got heaps of cool tracks in New Zealand so any of them would be fun.

Declan Fraser: Yeah, it was a tough gig. We qualified down the field. But we came through basically as much as we could. The car was pretty good. Yeah, the car was a bit of a handful for us. But we managed to get as much as we could out of it. Long, hard haul, like 35 minutes in that thing trying to kill you. It was a bit of fun. But at the end of the day, the Volante Rossi guys are doing a fantastic job and they haven't really been able to do much development with this car. So at the moment, we're working at it. We'll be right for next round.

Kaitlin: So you've also driven a supercar. How different is it compared to the other supercars that you've driven?

Declan Fraser: Yeah, completely different. So the supercar, compared to this, we have ABS in this, traction control, all these different settings. Whereas ABS in the supercar is just a raw race car. So no assist. Just go out there. Hold on to the thing for as long as you can. Normally 1,000 kilometres. But yeah, this is super fun. You get to really learn about the ABS and the traction in these cars. And learning to lean on them is the biggest difference.

Kaitlin: So, if you had any advice for any up-and-coming drivers, what advice would you give them?

Declan Fraser: Don't give up. A lot of people get to a stage where they're like, oh, I'm going to win. But I think if you just keep going and persisting with it, like one thing or another, it's going to work out. And I've been through the trenches with this sport so many times. I've pulled myself out of that many holes. It's not funny. And we're still here fighting every single day. And hopefully I can become a factory GT driver and a supercar driver at the same time. And I'll pull myself out of another hole.

Kaitlin: If your car could talk, what would it say about your driving style?

Declan Fraser: That I'm an amazing driver.

Kaitlin: If you could have a race track anywhere in the world that either the GTs race on or the supercars race on that we don't race on at the moment, where would you race?

Declan Fraser: Oh, that's a tough one. I actually think for Australia, we need to go to more rural tracks and get some more crowds. Like Winton not being on the calendar, Phillip Island, all those type of tracks. Just adding more to our sport. I think really boosting what we've got. As a category, it's amazing. It just needs a bit more boosting. And then outside of that, to second that point I guess, having something that really focuses on the drivers. Like the drive to survive in Formula 1 and NASCAR. And really building some atmosphere for what we have.

Kaitlin: What would you say is your favourite track to drive?

Declan Fraser: Favourite track would actually probably be Adelaide Street Circuit. I love concrete jungles. Just getting out, rubbing on the walls on the exits and stuff like that. Bathurst obviously, you can never go past it. It's an iconic track. But for me, Adelaide Street Circuit has a special place in my heart. Winning the Super 2 Championship.

Kaitlin: Do you have any plans for any more driving this year that you can reveal?

Declan Fraser: I've got a few things. I'll be racing that 86 Series in Townsville as a guest driver. Like I did in Gold Coast last year. So that's something that I'll be doing. And then I'll just be around the pits with the supercars and just doing as much as possible. And hopefully, with this, I can go overseas and do some races here and there. And also do the supercars at the same time.

Nash has been thrown straight in the deep end with driving as a co-driver at the Bend 500 and the coverted Bathurst 1000 in his first proper outing in main game machinery, he shared his excitement to Speedcafe:

“I couldn’t be more excited to be lining up with PremiAir Racing and Richie Stanaway for the 2025 endurance season,” Morris said.

“This will mark my first laps in the main game, and I feel ready for that challenge.

“To get the win in Super2 in Tasmania was something that has boosted my confidence, and I think it shows that I am developing as a driver and am ready to take the next step in my career.

“Richie is a great driver and the whole PremiAir Racing team has been making fantastic strides of late, so to be a part of their line-up for the enduros is an opportunity I am very pleased about.

“Hopefully, I can do a great job to repay their faith in me.”

Nash will be looking to prove himself at these events for the chance at a Supercars main drive in the distant future. With the two Tickford main game seats locked away until 2027, this enduro stint for Morris will put him on the pedestal for the whole Supercars community to see.

Morris’ talent behind the wheel of a Super 2 car has been impressive, he is currently in 3rd behind his Tickford Team mates.. He will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his father, Paul Morris, after his win at the Mountain in 201,4 while forging his own path.

While his teammates Lachie Dalton and Rylan Gray have had multiple stints in Supercars races with Tickford through their wildcard program, this is Morris’s first outing in the Supercars championship, which could lead to his breakout moment.

Through the Premiair co-driver opportunity, Nash now has a great opportunity to show what he is capable of behind the wheel of a main game Camaro. This will also show his adaptability as he drives a Ford in his Super 2 campaign.

Nash will be able to forge his own path even further and continue to make a name for himself within the motorsport world. With all eyes on Nash, this will be his shot at garnering even more attention for himself.

Nash will no doubt have confidence in himself and his abilities, especially after his win at Tasmania. Taking this confidence into a tightly contested enduro season will do the whole world of good, helping him to transfer this confidence behind the wheel and hopefully helping him to achieve some great results. The visibility and pressure for Nash, while not a sink or swim situation, but the visibility and pressure will undoubtedly influence his development and performance and giving teams a clear benchmark of his potential against top-tier talent.

Nash Morris will be hoping to continue his form and transfer his successes in Super 2 to his co-drive and repay the faith that Premiair has in him. The step up from Super 2 to supercars has been explained to be quite difficult, so it will be intriguing to see how Nash performs in the No.62.

Despite his talent, there’s the realistic chance that Morris may face challenges during his transition as a result of the step up in competition, and also the adjustment to different machinery, unfamiliar team dynamics, and the significantly higher calibre of drivers across the Supercars grid."

No matter the result for Nash, the opportunity to co-drive in the main game will allow him to gain unrivalled experience, get an eye in as well, and allow his development to be accelerated.
